Just keep swimming- Dory

Welcome to Highland's Technology Page! Our lab recently went through a huge overhaul! Our old outdated desktops have been replaced by a cart of Chromebooks. The lab along with several classrooms use Epson interactive projectors to engage our learners. Kdg, Gr1, and Gr2 all have access to iPads to use in the centers each day. Our Grade 2 students already use Chromebooks on a daily basis and our Grade 3 & 4 students are 1:1 with Chromebooks, so we are thrilled our lab has a new look.

I see all of our K-4 classrooms each week for a 40 minute
block of instruction and application. Students work independently on assignments and projects as well as collaboratively. Lessons can include digital citizenship, coding, internet safety, getting familiar with word processing and all it has to offer, collecting data & creating graphs, publishing their works from ELA, keyboarding skills, and research skills. In addition to the weekly Tech class, I work with some classes as a digital coach during some blocks. This might involve working on an extra project related to something with their classroom teacher, learning or exploring a new app or website, or digitally collaborating with peers both near and far! Recently, some of our third graders participated in a"Mystery Skype" with another third grade class located in another state. Through a series of strategic questions, working as a team, and integrating maps skills, we guessed what state they were located and they were able to guess what state we were located. It was SO much fun!

Highland is lucky enough to have a second computer lab in the Library too! This is used primarily for Imagine Learning, but we also use it for ST Math.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school. I enjoy working with your children and welcome the opportunity to meet their families!
